A Southern Tradition

I can remember eating blackeyed peas as a child on New Year's Day. It is a long-standing southern tradition. A meal of peas, greens and cornbread are supposed to bring luck during the new year. Peas represent coins, greens represent paper money and cornbread represents gold. Not that I'm superstitious, but just to be safe, we will enjoy the above tomorrow---the peas are already soaking. Happy 2009!

Clean carpets?

I rented a Rug Doctor yesterday and have managed to clean all the carpet in our house. It is disgusting to see how much dirt comes from a carpet. I also managed to sweep and mop all the other floors. I hope to get the house in better shape by the new year.

Long time, no post. We've all been sick this week. We finally got out today to go to a swimming party. The kids had fun, but I think it was a little too much for them. I hope to get something creative done in the next few weeks. I haven't scrapbooked in ages and I need to make some cards. I've got to go to the school this week and finish moving stuff out of my classroom. I'm going to leave a lot, because I just don't have anywhere to put it and the new teacher can use the material. I bought R's school supplies this week and I am so sad about sending him off to Kindergarten. That's just something I will have to come to terms with. That's all for now-ciao!

Happy President's Day

The students had a break today, but we went. I had a bad attitude all day. What has happened to me. I want to love teaching like I once did, but it is getting harder and harder. It seems like everytime we turn around, the "experts" are expected more and more from us. Of course these are the experts who spent 2-3 years tops in the classroom.

I would love to be a non-gripey person! It is so hard. I read the wonderful blogs of so many women who manage to do it all and keep their happy face on. Any hints? Truly I want to be amazing, too. Thanks for letting me have a pity party----I know there are people will real problems and apologize for being petty.

The weather here feels almost like spring. I'm sure I will be out of my funk soon.
