A Southern Tradition

I can remember eating blackeyed peas as a child on New Year's Day. It is a long-standing southern tradition. A meal of peas, greens and cornbread are supposed to bring luck during the new year. Peas represent coins, greens represent paper money and cornbread represents gold. Not that I'm superstitious, but just to be safe, we will enjoy the above tomorrow---the peas are already soaking.
